Gov’t spokesman: New Democracy has only one goal for elections, an outright majority

The only electoral goal for New Democracy is to gain an outright majority, government spokesman and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Pavlos Marinakis told Real News in an interview published on Sunday.**

At the same time, Marinakis also pointed out that there is fiscal room for additional measures to support citizens during the energy crisis and rising prices, underlining the need for Europe-wide decisions that would allow greater flexibility in state expenditures.

In his interview, the spokesman noted that the electoral result in 2027 will depend on the government’s effectiveness and the credibility of its programme for the coming four years.

Concerning high prices and energy-related pressures, Marinakis said that the government has maintained fiscal reserves to manage the fallout from the crisis in the Middle East, while it is also requesting from the European Union additional allowance for support that would not included in expenditure caps.

In terms of Greek-Turkish relations, the government spokesman clarified that Athens remains committed to dialogue with Ankara, without any deviation from Greece’s long-standing national stances.
